Orthodontics deals with the study and treatment of malocclusions (improper bites), which may be a result of tooth irregularity and/or disproportionate jaw relationships. Orthodontic treatment focuses on dental displacement only, where as dentofacial orthopaedics deals with the control and modication of facial growth. Disproportionate jaws in adults are managed by a combined orthodontic and surgical approach
